Through that caucus and union, Armstrong came to lead a campaign that successfully won access to all-gender bathrooms for UC students and workers. AT 20, Bradley opened his first downtown club in Lexington, KY with the help of his brother and sister. By the 1980’s, Bradley was Lexington’s leading drag queen. In 1991, Bradley moved to California. When he volunteered his design skills at an AIDS fundraiser, a local designer recognized Bradley’s talent and put him to work. Bradley quickly developed his own company, with clients ranging from Elton John to Barbra Streisand. In 2016, after 25 years in California, Bradley bought 40 acres in Meally, Kentucky, and moved back to be near his family. While mostly taking life a little easier now, Bradley continues to coordinate parties and events, and still dresses in drag on In 1991 she began working as Education Coordinator at the Kitchener-Waterloo Sexual Assault Support Centre in Ontario where she instructed on male violence against women, dating violence, child sexual assault, sexual harassment, dissociation, anti-racism, and oppression. In 1994 she initiated policies and training to support transgendered people who have experienced sexual and interpersonal violence. In 2000, White became a member of the Trans Alliance Society and the Women/Trans Dialogue Planning Committee, a grassroots project out of Vancouver, B.C. to foster dialogue between transgendered people and trans-exclusionary women’s groups. It was through this Committee that White met Joshua Mira Goldberg, her frequent collaborator in articles and policy guides. White received her M.A. in Educational Studies at the University of British Columbia in 2002. In 2005, White was employed by the Justice Institute of B.C. (JIBC) as Program Coordinator at the Centre for Leadership and Community Learning. She later became Program Director at the Centre for Counselling and Community Safety. She won the President’s Award at JIBC’s 2015 Awards of Excellence ceremony for her contributions towards their vision of “safer communities and a more just Though she encountered a progressiveness in various ways within the religious communities she was part of her in childhood, the fact that she was gender-questioning ultimately alienated her from the church. An important part of her socialization took place online, in the Myspace, DeviantArt, Twitch websites where she felt she had more control over interactions than IRL, especially if they became abusive due to her being a trans woman. Elsie speaks frankly about struggles that she has had both in school and her romantic history, as a sexual assault took its toll on both of those spheres in her life. She also talks briefly about her medical transition as a process that lead to her feeling more herself on estrogen than testosterone. Toward the end of the interview, Elsie connects her own empowerment and political development both to instances of police brutality that Black Lives Matter has foregrounded for the country, as well as her time studying at NYU and being involved in Geek Feminism Wiki, reading third wave feminist theory and reacting to
