Grappling with Religion and Trans Issues

Grace and Lace MastheadThe Grace and Lace Letters, created by Lee Frances in the 1990s, are composed of interesting writings by Christians who work to relate the experiences of trans-ing the gender binary with Christian teaching. Many reflect on various bible verses and psalms, contemplate “sin”, and discuss the belief that all are made in God’s image. Issues of self-acceptance and acceptance within their communities were clearly of central importance to the writers. As students at a faith-based college, we enjoyed reading contributors’ different perspectives and ideas about embracing their faith, spirituality, and identity.

An anonymous writer shares:  “My creator made me as I am...If I can stand confident and content with who, what, and how God made me, then I am not insulting my creator by rejecting and being made to feel shame over what my creator chose to do in making me.”
