An Important Resource for the Trans Community: Gender Networker and GenderServe

Tribute to SullivanThe materials I have processed for the DTA in the past typically contain personal writings, details of conferences, ads for seemingly extravagant events, and significant news stories as they pertain to the trans community. The Gender Networker and GenderServe newsletters, however, play a different, but equally significant role in the larger network of trans publications. These newsletters provide information on resources for both trans people and the professionals that work with them, and they also include information on the organizations themselves. I was fascinated to learn more about the trans community in Canada–it was interesting to see the resources that they had in comparison with those in the United States.

One of my favorite articles in these publications was a tribute to Louis Graydon Sullivan, an activist who is famous for creating FtM community. This article helped me put a human face on the different foundations I had read about.
