The Queen, in drag, is on horseback in a procession of men. A re-enactment of her speech to the English land forces assembled at Tilbury in preparation for repelling the expected invasion by the Spanish Armada. A commercial postcard printed for the Aldershot Tattoo in the late 1920s. As all roles in the tableaux were performed by service personnel, and women had no recognized permanent role in the British Army until as late as 1949, the role of Queen Elizabeth in this tableau had to be taken by a man
